Some of us have a natural desire to be individual. People with this personality trait are unsatisfied blending in with the crowd. They want to be noticed and remembered by the people they meet. One of the best ways to set yourself apart is through your style. If you are creative and imaginative with the way you present yourself, this will make you stand out. However, it’s important not to be memorable for the wrong reasons. Just because it’s completely different from what everyone else is wearing, doesn’t automatically make it look good. Read on for some help on how to get the knack for using style to stand out.
If you customise your clothes, then you can guarantee you’ll be the only one wearing it. If you are going to do this well, you’ll need the right equipment, for instance, a sewing machine and Henkel glue guns, and the skills. Your aim is to enhance your garments, not turn them into something that looks like a child’s nursery project. Once you’ve learnt the crafts, you will be embellishing collars, ripping jeans and frilling sleeves all over your wardrobe.
An outfit of contrasting materials, colours and styles can look fabulous and unique, if pulled off correctly. It is risky though, so do take care when creating your ensembles. One of the items should act as a neutral so that the whole thing isn’t too garish. For example, a delicate floral top would work well with a bold striped skirt or shorts. Do pay attention to your textures too. Leather and knits are good at creating cohesion between two mismatched items.
Look to other countries
Jessica Blair, from clothing manufacturer Wiseman Clothing says; “Fashion trends tend to change depending on the country. So a great tip is to bring back some inspiration from your next holiday or look through international fashion magazines and websites.”
“Locations that are close in culture to your own may not be different enough for you. In that case, you may wish to look further afield at more exotic countries.”
Make your own
If you enjoy customising your clothes, why not take it a step further and make your own outfits. With this skill, you can create a wardrobe which is completely personal to you. Obviously, you’ll need to establish some dress-making skills but this can be done at an evening, weekend or online course (some of which are free). With these skills, you can pick fabric in any colour, pattern and material you like and create clothes that fit you perfectly, and that make you stand out from the crowd.
But it’s not all about the clothes
Your hair and makeup are also part of your overall style. Look for beautiful, eye-catching styles online and take these images to your hairdresser. When it comes to makeup, be careful not to overdo it. The most distinctive looks are those that highlight your natural beauty. So experiment with colours and looks that suit your natural complexion.
While your style can make you stand out from the crowd. Remember what’s inside counts too. Your winning personality will be the most memorable thing about you.
